Reaching out

When I started this blog over 2 years ago, I felt a bit like blogging was a popularity contest.  Some bloggers I read had triple digit followers and got oodles of comments every day.  I wanted that.

So I joined memes.  I would open every link in Mr. Linky and comment on every blog I ever visited. After all how else was I going to get people to visit my blog?

While that works, its all superficial.  Someone might return a comment, but they won't make your site a daily read unless you have that all important, critical blog component.

Before you think I'm trying to teach anyone how to run a blog, when quite obviously I'm no expert, I'm talking about the focal point of @StickyJesus chapter 5.  In the blogosphere content is what its all about.

What are you putting out there for the world to see?

I strive to be transparent.  Some days I feel like I could conquer the world.  Some days I pour my heart out hoping that I won't be misunderstood.  Cause let's face it - sometimes life sucks.

As I've grown as a person, I think (hope?) I've grown as a writer and as a blogger.  Along the way blogging and commenting on blogs has become about more than popularity.  Over the past 2 years I've developed relationships with some amazing people.

I hope words I've typed have helped them through bad times and encouraged them through good.
I do worry, however, about my blog content.  Do I talk about training too much?  My husband says I talk about running too much in real life, so maybe it spills over onto my blog.

So as my dear, loyal, and 100 strong readers (woot - while its not all about popularity I do love now having 100 followers!) please tell me what you think.  What would you like to see more of?  Less of?

What questions are burning in your soul that you just have to know about me?

Okay so doubtful there is anything that serious, but hit me with some questions.

And before you ask - yes, I really do think chest hair is sexy.

  1. I don't really have questions, just wanted to thank you for sharing with us. :)

  2. I love your blog!! I love that you have a terrific balance, your financial fridays, you post about food sometimes, running/training, reading & your faith. I think its great!!

  3. I'm with the other commenters...I keep reading because I already enjoy your content! It seems to be a good reflection of things that are important to you.

  4. I think your blog is just fine as it is - I like the flow of it. However, if you're going to add content, please add winning lottery numbers to the list. Not that I generally play the lottery, mind you, but just because it's fun to dream about winning and all the great things you could do with it! :) No, seriously - I say keep blogging as the spirit moves you!

  5. I actually like it just the way it is - YOU! :)

And dude if I had known how much you liked chest hair I'd have had D take off his shirt. His friends in college used to call him the missing link.

  6. yep. it's YOU. that's why we all come by...we love you just the way you are!

(i know that's not very helpful is it...)

  7. I like it just like it is. What you post is just Brooke - and that's good!

  8. I don't think you need to change anything. I read your blog because I feel like we have become friends, so I'm seeing what's up with my friend each day! Yay for 100 followers! I think I'm up to 20! ;)

  9. Your blog is YOU and I love YOU just the way you are!

  10. o my gosh-- how did i miss your race reports??? I just read through them. Congrats, congrats, congrats!! You are a marathoner!!!!
WAy to go chick. That is totally one to mark off the bucket list.
Has the gravity of what you did sunk in? You are a marathoner??? So few people in the world run 26.2 miles.....so cool.
    That is awesome!!!!
Are you going for number 2 anytimes soon?
Go out and drive 26 miles, it is really far in a car---and you ran it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Just another "keep doing what you're doing" one. No, I don't think you talk about running too much. I think you have a good balance here, and you keep it real.

My favorite blogs are those that read like a letter from a good friend, and yours is definitely one of those!

  12. I agree with everyone else. I say keep the format as it is now because it's YOU. Even though I don't comment often, I do read. :)

  13. You became a "daily read" for me, because you talk about running. You do the things I'm hoping to do one day...and that is inspiring me. DON'T CHANGE A THING!!

  14. I read blogs to learn more about my "friends", so only change it if you are changing! lol!!
The real-ness of the blogs I read is what keeps my interest and brings me back as often as I can!!

  15. So interesting : )
I don't really care about any blog numbers. When I visit blogs I do leave comments because I know they are encouraging. I like to be encouraging. : )
When you are real people come. That is just what I think anyway.

what up yo?
