The Dave Ramsey Kool-Aid is Particularly Tasty

Living like no one else is hard work.

That’s why no one else is doing it.

Last night, I went to the hospital to visit a friend that had a baby. 9 lbs and 7 oz of natural child birth! I don’t envy her!!

Ordinarily I would have used it as an excuse to not work out and to get fast food. Instead, I pulled two containers of soup out of the freezer (beef stew for Mr. Right, chicken chili for myself) to thaw for dinner.

After work I changed, ran 2.5 miles then headed to the hospital. I think that the run actually helped out – otherwise I would have been stuck downtown in 5 o’clock traffic.

A mutual friend, who was meeting me there, offered to pick up fast food for me on the way. She was getting food for the proud parents and said she didn’t care to get something for me as well.

I’ll tell ya, I was tempted. Instead, I laid out a Fiber One bar to eat during the drive (I knew I wouldn’t be getting home until late). Now I will admit to finishing off the fries that were leftover, but I had extra calories for the day so that didn’t hurt anything.

I have goals for myself. Neglecting exercise and buying fast food just don’t figure in. I want to:

1. Lose 10 lbs this year.
2. Pay off the mortgage on 5.5 acres of land Mr. Right & I want to build our dream house on.
3. Get life insurance on the two of us (when you are married to a tobacco using hemophiliac, that’s not as simple as it sounds).
4. Open a Roth IRA.

I am determined to meet my goals this year. (The land is more of a 2-3 year plan. We owe $33K, so unless he sells a monster cabin with a huge commission, its not happening this year.) I will meet these goals.

I also want to say a big “Praise God” for the blessings in my life. I know that I’m fortunate that these are even possibilities. He’s been so good to me, even when I don’t deserve it.

  1. Good luck on reaching your goals! I have set some short and long terms goals for my family. We are into year #2 of a 4 year money saving plan and so far so good. Have a great weekend.

  2. We don't deserve our blessings either. :) It always makes me feel so much better to see other people also going down the path of self-control and discipline. It isn't a fun or easy path and occasionally we slip. But reaching those goals makes it so worth it. Big high five!

  3. Good idea to actually make a list of your goals. I think it makes it easier to actually work toward them. I didn't know Mr Right was a hemophiliac. I'm thinking he must do alright with it or you would mention it more often.

  4. Good luck on your goals! Like you said, they are totally doable. We must be on the same wavelength just in different states...the other day we both talked about toning our arms and now we both ran (or in my case ran/walked) 2.5 miles!

Great job on being strong with the eating and working out...keep it up!!

  5. There are so many blessing to be thankful for. I agree that getting life insurance and a roth is important. Boring, but important.

  6. Isn't it great to have those goals? =) I get so excited when I have our "five year plan," which, of course, could be altered drastically at any time, but it's just the thought of planning the rest of your life with your husband that's so much fun.

  7. Oooh I love lists...and plans...goals. I'm a list nerd. Nothing better than crossing something off the list, too. I usually have about 10 lists going at one time: grocery list, home-improvement list, people to call list...love it

  9. Good job on resisting temptation and keeping your eye on the prize!!! I've been doing some serious caving lately, and it's starting to make me feel bad about myself... gotta stop it!

And I love your list of goals. Mine?

Get a will for me and Hubs. Why don't we have one already??? No idea. We gotta get it DONE!

Open college savings accounts for my kids and get one of those cool UPromise visas.

And ummm... get some plants planted in my yard. I know that's kind of a lame one, but we have literally NO plants in our yard. Sure it's low (no) maintenance, but it's also seriously ugly. Gotta do something about it!
