Shrinking into Summer...only I'm not Shrinking

Previous weight: 135
Current weight: 135

I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm consuming around 1200-1400 calories 5 days a week, and I'm working out at least 5 days a week.

I'm training for a 5K, so I run 3 days a week. Plus I'm faithful to my Tuesday/Thursday lunch time toning classes. Some weeks I'll even throw in a spin class or afternoon on the elliptical to mix things up.

The only place where I slip up is on the weekends. I allow myself Saturday and Sunday as cheat days (and have between 1800-2000 calories). Honestly without a cheat day, I wouldn't be able to realistically stick with the eating.

Maybe I should cut it back from the whole weekend to just one cheat day and see what happens.

Any other suggestions from you weight loss machines out there??

This weekend at the grocery store - I did induge myself. I typically try to catch breakfast food items on sale or to figure out what items are the cheapest.

Instead, I bought a box of bran flakes just because I was craving them.

$1.99 for a box of Kroger Bran Flakes. I'm such a rebel!

For weight loss encouragement, head on over to the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans. I'm sure some of those ladies will have incredible losses for the week.

  1. Are you measuring your food to make sure your portion sizes are correct? I know it's very easy to under estimate how much you are taking in. Also, are you keeping track of how much you are burning when you're working out? You maybe burning too much for your calorie intake and your body thinks it's starving so it holds onto everything.

Stick with it, you can do it!

  3. Don't worry; I've been stuck on the same weight for 2 months and doing Weight Watchers!! BUT one good thing is that I at least am not GAINING. =D

  4. Simplelivin' makes a good point. And I think bran flakes would be a good thing! Your body does needs some carbs to burn during a workout. Your exercise regimen is awesome! Are you feeling stronger and more toned? Remember that muscle weighs more that fat. You might just be swapping one for the other right now.

Think of it this way at least you aren't gaining.

I totally feel you on the cheat day, I have to have one or else it will all be down hill for me. Maybe try one day instead of two.

  8. I hear ya. Plateaus are AWFUL.

I do sparkpeople (www.sparkpeople.com) to help track calories, exercise, and other goals. I do it mainly so I make sure that I'm getting enough nutrients like calcium and iron and cutting enough fat and sodium from my diet at the same time. I love my salt :0)

Visiting you from SITS--have a great day!

  9. Living In A Girls World could be right. Maybe it is muscle.

Maybe only allow yourself to cheat once a week.

Keep it up. Something is bound to drop.

  10. I'm going to echo Simplelivin's comment. With the amount of exercise you're getting I would be you're not eating enough. Definitely check out www.sparkpeople.com (I think someone else mentioned that site) and plug in your info. You might be surprised to see you need more food. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but I think that would be a good place to start. Good luck!!! :)

  11. Are you maybe NOT eating enough? I know that might sound strange but sometimes, if your body isn't getting enough calories, then it holds on to your weight. Makes sense, huh?

    Just a thought!

  12. Hang in there. I have a cheat day-usually the day after weigh-in so I have plenty of time to make it up. Maybe if you switch your cheat day around then you might see a difference.

Hope you will stop by my blog. I am a new blogger. This is my second month in the world of BLOG. I am great give away this month. This drawing will be the last day of April.
Every comment you leave throughout the month will enter your name in the drawing. This NEW blogger was so touched by all the comments I got on the Blog Party Give Away,(over 300) that I decided to make this a monthly GIFT...
Also, if you mention blog telling about the monthly giveaway, you will have your name entered 10 extra times...Just be sure and let me know that you did. How is that for an incentive?
I was so blown away by all the responses that I wanted to email each person personally... I did love reading all of them..I am continuing to introduce my family members. In May, there will be some fun blogs coming from Disney World with the grandkids. I hope to blog every night, in case you like a good trip report. And there will also be a great Disney giveaway.

  14. I agree with the other comment, maybe you're working out too much for your calorie intake and your body thinks it's starving and hanging onto the lbs? I tend to have that problem when I work out a lot.

  15. This weightloss thing is such a game sometimes. Trying new things, adjusting calories, activity, etc. Eventually you'll find the right combination. I would definitely say to try eating more, with as much as you're working out. Incorporating fiber, and making sure your diet is balanced will help too. Remember, you get fiber from fruits and vegetables too. Make sure you're drinking PLENTY of water because you're losing alot when you exercise. Last but not least, I would think about having one splurge day instead of two. Spread those extra calories from the second day out over the rest of the week and that might do the trick!

Good luck this week, girl. Thanks for being such an awesome Sister! I see your comments everywhere, and that makes me SO happy!!

  16. Hmmm. Are you drinking enough water? I don't know why the weight has stalled.

  17. When I was on WW years ago and frequented the boards there, there was always talk of using the Wendy Plan (I think that's what it was called!!) to kick a plateu.

AHA! Here it is: Wendie Plan

Anyway, maybe that might help? Of course, it could be muscle gain, too.

    Hang in there, girl!

  18. Exactly what MommyMo and Christy said. Seriously. With your work out schedule, your body needs more calories on work out days. Give a try!

Good luck! I know you can do it!

  19. I'm definitely with the others on needing more calories. I know that we all have different metabolisms, but your weight and mine are pretty similar and I try to stay between 1400 and 1700 calories a day (and I usually go over at least one or two days - not on purpose!). And I am not exercising nearly as much as you. I do the 30 Day Shred everyday and have a 1 hour karate class twice a week (but it's only mild to moderate exercise for most of the time). I usually have dessert most days (sometime small or low-cal, but I can't live without it). And I log everyting onto sparkpeople.com and measure everything. And you can enter recipes, and they will calculate the calories per serving.

  20. I know people hate to hear it, but I totally think it could be that you are not eating enough and your body thinks it is starving. Maybe try eating 1500 calories with your cheat day, and see if your body responds.;o)

Hang in there, you'll get it!

  21. I always hated scales myself. Maybe you are just gaining muscle! Sounds like you do a lot of exercise. Don't let it get to you. Keep up the great work! Also, thanks for visiting my blog. I did day 2 of the shred last night, and you are right! Day two the pain is awful! My legs are so sore!
