Frugal Friday - Money Goals
Last week Dave Ramsey posed a challenge to his twitter followers – finish the following statement: Live like no one else, so that later ________.
For as long as I’ve been listening, he’s been saying “Live like no one else, so that later you can live like no one else.” Through twitter, he was asking what “living like no one else” means to his listeners.
He got some great responses, including travel-filled retirement, a new boat, and sending kids to college. The more I thought about it, I realized that I didn’t have an end game in mind. Sure I’d like to have a beautiful farm house, but that’s not at the heart of my thrifty nature.
I finally realized that I can’t fill the blank in without changing up the wording a bit. For me its “Live like no one else, so that I don’t have to worry about how I’m going to pay the bills.
Pathetic, huh?
Thankfully Jay had a better answer – he wants to retire early and go traveling across the country. Its actually very do-able. I’ll have my 30 years of service in when I turn 55.
How would you fill in the blank? What causes you to watch your pennies? Your “if money were no object” goal in life?

If money were no object, I'd work part-time. No doubt. ;)
ReplyDeleteBut then I couldn't rule the world...hmmm....
I'm with LL. Part-time work. And I'd still figure out a way to rule the world.
ReplyDeleteYou seem so financially-savvy. Wish I could hire you to manage all our money, because we don't know what the darn we're doing! Haha!
I've actually wanted to do Dave Ramsey's studies for awhile, though.
I'm with you, it'd be hard to focus on something other than bills right now. :)
ReplyDeleteIn this economy nearly everyone is worried about money. I have spent too many years of my life WORRYING about money and bills. So I don't anymore. I just don't.worry.
ReplyDeleteDo what you can, as well as you can, and leave it at that. That's my theory anyway. It's alot more fun!!
if money were no object I'd volunteer a couple of days a week @ the elementary school reading w/kids & scrapbook my other days away :)
ReplyDeleteI would travel.
ReplyDeleteRight now I am working on the live like no one else right now. i am a teacher and out for the summer so I am working as a housekeeper at an inn to make extra money to get our e-fund fully funded.
somedays when my friends are all hanging out or taking trips i remind myself--live like no one else!!
I think my husband and I do what we do financially for our family, specifically for our daughters, so that we have money set aside to do fun things together and to afford the items we believe will be important in their future.
ReplyDeleteGreat question - really got me thinking!
I would go to school fulltime if money were no object.
ReplyDeleteYou all are so smart to be thinking about early retirement already! My husband and I are both 40 yrs old and our 401k's are totally pathetic! I keep telling him we're never gonna be able to retire if we don't start making a plan now!!!
ReplyDeleteI think I have always lived like no one else. My problem? I'm not sure how much I need to finally say, "now I can live like I want".
ReplyDeleteI'd be the 90 different things I want to be....thanks so much for coming by on my feature day...I'm so happy you did
ReplyDeleteHi I just wanted to come over and say Thanks for visiting my blog and signing up for my give-away! It is so fun to "meet" new people.
ReplyDeleteI love the show LOST too - It is a new favorite for me. I just read that in your profile and thought "She must be cool!"
Have a GREAT week!
I think I already live the way I want. What I'd like is for my husband to be able to quit his stupid job so he could join me! lol We're thankful for his job, and that it's able to provide for our family, but it would sure be nice for him to work less and be with us more.
