Discouragement

After a month of a 1200-1800 calorie diet, and excercising 3-6 times a week, the scale still isn't budging.

As a matter of fact, I'm actually up 1.2 pounds from last week.

And only 1.2 pounds away from my "eating fast food every day and never working out" weight.

I wanna give up. Seriously.

I'm going to try to make it another month, to reach my wellness assessment. With this kind of results I'm not sure I'll make it that long.

Did I mention there are girl scout cookies in my desk drawer taunting me?

  1. You have girl scout cookies?? Why haven't mine come in yet???

It's okay. I've been weighing myself at night (bad choice, I know), so I switched to the mornings to give me a little encouragement to see, "Haha! I'm down a pound (or two, whatever)!" Yeah, right! I was UP 1.1 lb!!! WHAT!?!?!! I was sooo aggrivated!

  2. Well, there is hope. Do your clothes feel any different? Sometimes, the scale may not be moving or going the wrong way but you still may be making good progress. Muscle actually weighs more than fat so if you are losing fat and replacing it with muscle, the scale may lie to you. I hope this is the case for you. Don't give up just yet.

  3. Don't get discouraged! It's hard to see the scale not moving; maybe look at the type of foods that are in your 1200 calorie day. Even natural sugar is not that great for weightloss. Also, figure out what your target heart rate is; I was surprised mine is SUPER high and a lot harder to each than I thought. But it makes a difference! Good luck and keep up the good work!

  5. Bummer! Could it be PMS related bloating? I went to the doctor the other day and was up 3 lbs from my pre-health scare weight. I don't get it!

And here is something really encouraging: http://www.glamour.com/magazine/2009/02/lose-weight-while-you-sleep

  7. I know about the dieting blues. I hate the way the scale never seems to budge, but I've come to realize that if I look good otherwise, who really cares what it says. You look good from your pic on your site...Girls scout cookies??? Especially the chocolate mint ones...I tell myself it's for a good cause... :D

  8. Don't feel bad about your weight loss, seriously. You're doing amazing things for your HEALTH! That's what I tell myself when the scale doesn't go the way I want it to: that even though I'm not loosing I'm still increasing my endurance, doing good things for my heart and my lungs, increasing my strength, etc. There are SO many benefits to exercise besides weight loss, you're literally increasing the days of your life every day you exercise!

So keep it up! Your body will thank you later, even if it doesn't shed any pounds.

Oh, and I totally second what Shannon said about muscle weighing more than fat. Have you measured yourself? I know I often loose inches even if I don't loose pounds.

  9. I have to agree with some of the comments - could it be muscle? Are you noticing your clothes are looser. Girl scout cookies are evil but taste so good.

  10. Don't give up! You can do it!! I blogged recently about those EVIL girl scout cookies. I thought about giving some of mine away in my giveaway.....but, seriously--there are other people in my family to think about...
Thanks for stopping by my blog, and good luck in my giveaway....!!

  11. I'm sorry honey. I was struggling with this last year. Here is some unsolicited advice:

I agree with shopaholic. Look at what you are actually eating and try to switch to more whole foods. Try to include one fresh fruit or veggie with every meal and get your fats and proteins. I recommend reading In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan.

This is what finally helped me start losing.

Oh, and eat those girl scout cookies, just keep it to one serving then go for a walk =).

  13. A fluctuation of up to five pounds is VERY natural! Don't be discouraged :) To truly gain 2 pounds (of fat) in a day, you would have to eat nearly 40,000 calories the day before (I have to stress this to my clients all the time!). Plus someone else mentioned above me...if you're exercising you're probably gaining lean muscle mass, which weighs more! I hate the scale and like to go by how clothes fit :)

Hope that wasn't too much info! I do this for a living so I tend to get carried away when somebody mentions diet and exercise!

    Keep it up! :) :) :)

  14. Thanks for visiting my blog! I have been watching what I eat for the past year and got about 38 lbs and now have been teetering in a 1-2 lb range not budging the scale either. I was exercising several times a week, then got sick with upper respiratory stuff so stopped due to dr orders and lost a few lbs. I don't even understand how that happened. Anyway, I exercised the other day and gained 2 lbs within a day or so. Keep up the dedication and you'll see the results you want soon. My trainer says that sometimes you have to take a bit of a break, then change up your exercise routine with a different type of exercise to jumpstart the weight loss. (sometimes I do eliptical, step, circuit, treadmill just to switch it around). Good luck to you!

I have Thin Mints in my drawer. Visit me again!!!!

  15. Haha, I feel your pain girl. I gained I think 7-10 lbs when I got married. I still hope to get that off, PLUS my preggo weight!

It's a good thing I didn't run into any girl scouts, because I can't resist thin mints and samoas.

You're so pretty though, I bet Mr. Right is thrilled with all of you!

  17. Don't give up! Keep going. Just think how good you will feel when you reach your goal. I'm in the same spot. The scale either goes up and then back down but never to where I want it to go. I'm not giving up, so you can't give up!
