New house!

Its official - we closed on the house Thursday afternoon.  We're now first time home debtors!

I'm excited but its a little daunting - there is quite a bit of work to be done.  Jay has some repairs to take care of (some he's fixing himself, some he is contracting out) before I can roll up my sleeves and get to work.  As you can imagine, there is a ton of cleaning for me to do, since the house has been vacant for several months.

So for those of you Saturday bloggers out there I've got a question for you.  Right now the duct work on the HVAC unit isn't connected, which means some (a lot) of the heat is going into the crawl space instead of the house.  That also means that dirt from the crawl is being blown into the house.

So what order should I do things in?  Jay seems to think I should clean first, so when the ducts are replaced, we don't get the brand new ones dirty.

I think that its pointless to clean until the ducts are replaced - its just gonna get dirty again any way.

There is still plenty for me to do, I just can't seem to drag myself out of bed this morning to start packing/cleaning.

  1. Congratulations!!!!! How exciting!

I'd recommend waiting to clean until the ductwork is connected. No sense in doing the same job twice if it isn't necessary!

  2. Congratulations! So much to look forward to. I'm with you - clean after the ducts are replaced. Why clean twice?

I agree...deep clean before and then it won't be as nasty to do afterwards!

  5. I like Christie's idea - let the duct cleaning people do it. It's offered around here for a nominal fee.
    Congrats on owning a home!

  8. Congrats on the house! It's so exciting but definitely daunting. I'd say clean only once, but I know nothing in regards to duct work and such. Can't wait to see pictures of the place!

  9. Congratulations...how exciting!!! With that said, I have no idea what ductwork is so I'm no help. My hubby does all the house maintenance (I do the laundry though so that's my contribution!)

  15. Congrats!!!!
I think it makes the most sense to only clean once, after the ducts are replaced.
But I'm so OCD, I know I would be cleaning right now because I can't stand to have all that dirt laying around.
