Weigh-in Wednesday - the Downhill ride

Good morning all!  Ms. Downer is around here somewhere, I just wanted to pop off a quick post before she turns up and tries to ruin things.  :P

Sisterhood Spring Fling Challenge

I'll get the numbers out of the way first:

Challenge start: 125.4
Goal weight: 120?
Last week: 125.0
This week: 123.8

I'm trying not to get too excited about the loss, because I fear next week the roller coaster of my weight heading back uphill.  (Aunt Flow is coming to visit Debbie next week.)

I've decided a few things in the past week.  The first is after this weight loss challenge is over, I'm going to give myself a break on calorie counting.  Not allow myself to go hog wild, but follow Karena's lead and not obsess about every bite I put into my mouth.

Also, when I'm finished with the triathlon training, I'm going to give myself a couple of weeks off.  Christmas was really the only break I've had from running since I started back last March. It doesn't hurt that right smack dab in the mittle of those two weeks off is my 30th birthday.  I'm hoping my body will come back ready to push harder than ever.  Even if it doesn't, it'll be a nice little vacation.

I'm considering finding alternate means of exercise for the months of June, July, and August.  Still run a time or two a week, but focus more on cross training.  Once September arrives I'll begin training for the Disney Marathon, so my legs deserve a little calm before the storm.  Any suggestions for things I could take up?

Its tempting to combined heavy lifting and eating at maintenance or a little above to attempt to build muscle mass during this time period.  I guess its still far enough out there that I don't have to make any decisions right away.  Last time I restricted calories because I wasn't sure I could mentall handle the weight gain that would come from a mini bulking phase.

Okay I know I'm a freak.  While most might find having their year planned out already constricting, I find it liberating!  I love knowing what's in store for me.  I love being in control having a plan.

Mhahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

PS - I've actually been getting some work done around the house and it feels wonderful.  Now if i could just find a way to get the cob webs out of the corner of our 16 (ish??) foot tall stairway wall.

  1. Ladder and a swiffer to get those webs or better yet - Jay! I like knowing what's coming up too.

  2. Yay for getting work done around the house!!! That doesn't sound like Debbie to me, that sounds productive! Good idea to take a break from running before training the Disney marathon, you don't want to burn out halfway through training.

I feel you on the mental side of muscle gain. Especially (not to scare you), but in order to lose it you basically have to let it turn to fat and then burn it off...not fun!

  3. I'm quite the opposite...I love having no plans, having surprises, and I hate when my planner starts filling up with crap. But I looove love love crossing things off "The List" - I think I may be the perfect storm of free-bird and control freak! Ha

  4. Also...tell Debbie and Flo to run away together. You stick around, though =)

  5. Congrats on your loss, Brooke! I totally understand how you feel, though. I really think I need a break, too. Not a long one, or not one where I just don't care, but just some time off. I think the "vacation" will give my mind and body the recharge that it needs. Of course, I'll have to wait until after June 6th :)

    Have a great day :)

  6. Great job on the loss, Brooke! I think sometimes a break from all the intense focus can really help. Although it's a little early to say, I don't think I'll be going back to the cal counting etc. I'm really enjoying this whole experience, especially the never feeling guilty part!

You have to carry me across the finish line at Disney, remember? So maybe you *should* be working on building some muscle mass!!!

  7. Sounds like your doin great to me. I need to start my training or the tri I am doing in August. (Just a sprint tri, but still!) You are an inspiration.

(PS, stick a swiffer on a long stick. That's what I do)

  8. Congrats Brooke! I like the idea of giving your legs a break. I'm sure they will appreciate it too.

I agree with every one else swiffer on a long stick.

  9. Have you thought about the PX90 stuff? My hubby wants to start that this summer.

  10. I say get Jay to get those cobwebs for. Make him stand on that ladder! =)

Also I have to say your guess is kinda true, it happened just not to me, a co-worker was telling the story and I thought it was hilarious! Actually Numbero Uno is true. So freaking glad she decided to change my name, I don't think Bernie would have been a good fit for me. Thanks again for the award, and sorry it took so long for me to play along.

  11. Brooke, you are doing amazingly well-for realz. Kick Debbie to the curb and have Jay climb up on a ladder to clear those cobwebs :)

I say you do whatever exercise sounds fun to you. Chase the princess and little man around, take a zumba class, whatever. Just do something that makes you feel good!

  12. I am doing the P90x and I am loving it!! I would do that for cross training :) You will get a lot stronger too. Also, I think it is helping my running!

  13. You could do the bulking, as you thought of, that's not a bad idea.

Or maybe you could do some Barre workouts, like Squeeze and Physique 57, which make you stronger without bulking you up, and they also help you with flexibility, which is always great to prevent injuries!

  14. Awesome week, Brooke! Especially considering it being post-Easter and all.

Your plan sounds really good! Yes, definitely a good idea to give yourself a break after the triathlon. If your experience is like mine, you'll definitely be feeling some degree of burn out. Plan on doing ANYTHING but run, bike, and swim (unless recreational).

  15. Hooray for the loss - but I agree, that you should take a break. Enjoy it!

  16. Brooke I think your doing an amazing job! Congrats any loss is a big deal especially since it was a holiday week! Sounds like a good plan on taking a break :D

  17. Nice loss, girl!
And I'm proud of you for deciding to take a break - you work SO hard, and sometimes, we all need to relax a bit.

  18. I think a break from calorie counting will be good for you. I give you my blessing. You're welcome. ;oP

    PS. YOU ROCK.

  19. I'm glad you're taking a bit of a break. Regarding eating, on Biggest Loser last night Jillian talked about doing a strict diet 2 days, moderate 3 days & splurge a little on the weekends. I thought that sounded like a reasonable way to keep an eye on things but not obsess. As for a workout, do you like aerobics? You'd still burn calories, but it would be in a different way.

I have one of those extension poles for the ceiling fan ~ it's somewhere between 9-12'.
